A Brief Introduction to Ayurveda

Ayurveda, is the traditional Indian system of medicine, being practiced by the people of Indian subcontinent for more than 3000 years. The word ‘Ayurveda’ is formed by combining two words – Ayu and Veda, which means the “Science of life”.

Ayurveda, is one of the oldest records of medical knowledge, based upon the principles governing the Universe and the mankind, the Pancha Mahabhuta or the Five Great Elements

Ayurveda opines that, all the living beings are influenced by the Universe, and we are the miniature form of the Universe.

The two main objectives of Ayurveda are

  • To maintain the health in the healthy individual and
  • To treat the illness in the diseased individual.

The humans are afflicted by the physical and mental diseases because of their food, activities and mental tendencies. Ayurveda prescribes custom made solutions, for individual's sufferings after carefully understanding the individual’s body – mind type, diet habits and life style.
